Week 10: Pedo Bowl (Ohio State -3 over Penn State: Big Noon Saturday)
We're in Happy Valley this week for Wexner v. Sandusky at Big Noon (Buckeyes -3 over the Nittany Lions).
Thursday's lines are Texans +2 at Jets and Tulane -15 @ Charlotte.
The rest of this week's NFL lines are here, NCAAF lines are here, and the Exec. Comm., as always, wishes a safe and happy football voting weekend to all.

DeleteReposting my winning Wednesday essay. According the to the internet, Kennesaw State University one of Georgia's most innovative institutions in teaching and learning, and apparently they also have an FBS football team. Scrappy the owl is their mascot and according to Wikipedia they are already scheduled to play Georgia Southern in football in 2032. I was watching a game recently (different school) and they described their quarterback as a 7th year senior so it’s possible some upcoming freshman have something similar to look forward to. I also took 7 years to graduate undergrad and who’s to say it wasn’t just to maintain my eligibility to play college football. Anyway what is exciting about this matchup is Kennesaw fresh off a win over liberty despite being 27+ point underdogs. They are up against Western Kentucky who has a 6 game cover streak and is getting 80% of the voting money as of later Tuesday night. Kennesaw state +24

I've been riding the Steelers for 3 straight weeks, but they are on the bye, so I need a different ride. I've settled on fading the defending National Champions. Oregon has an explosive offense, a strong defensive line, and a chance to make another statement against a traditional B1G top dog. Michigan can't pass the ball and that spells doom once Oregon gets a lead. Michigan's best chance is to waste time and pray for a 17-14-ish game. I can't see it, so I'll load up on the Ducks.

Michigan is not very good. Congrat’s on figuring out how to beat a mistake prone and youthful Aidan Chiles. Oregon is not going to be so forgiving. The Big Ten east-west travel deal is pretty real, but if there’s a team good enough and talented enough to overcome it, it’s Oregon, and Michigan is simply not good enough to keep up. 14.5 is a big number but not sure if you really want to rely on the legs of Alex Orji to keep things close if you’re a bettor.
I will go Packers here—reports of bad weather and everyone is a little too confident about the Lions.

Might just essay the Lions every week from here on out, not really worried about laying points when we're averaging a 3 TD beatdown over the last four games. Also not too worried with the Lions having handled Lambeau Field easily the last two years. Jordan Love was lousy coming back too early from his first injury and it looks like he's planning to make the same mistake again. Unfortunately, the Lions have no pass rush so they're probably gonna need a few picks, but I don't think a hobbled Love is going to be able to outduel 90% completion rate Jared Goff.
Heads up, got a problem with scoring last week. I chose the Commies for my essay, not Sparty.

DeleteBoom: Welcome to NFL Priiiimetime! I'm Chris Berman, you all know Tom Jackson. We had a good week, and now we have to stack them up.
DeleteTJ: It's a long season, Boom. I wasn't a math major at Louisville, but I understand that there's just as many biscuits to win after the regular season as there is before. So if we simply make the playoffs, no lead is safe. It's kind of like the scoring in Family Feud where a family can have zero and still win on the final board.
Boom: That Richard Dawson, what a charmer. I'm jealous of all those kisses.
TJ: As I understand it, Family Feud had contestants tested for herpes while he was host.
Boom: Before or af...
TJ: Before! I regret even bringing it up.

Boom: Gotta ride the hot hand, right?
TJ: I think you do. Now the Giants have some ferocious pass rushers, but I do not believe they have the "cover" part of "rush and cover", and it takes two, Boom.
Boom: So "Scary" Terry should have a great day. Would Malik "Won't You Be My" Nabors be able to match him?
TJ: The passing game takes more than two. I'm sure you know that Daniel Jones is struggling. Well, that offensive line is a M.A.S.H. unit.
Boom: Hey, I bet you didn't you know that, when the last episode of M.A.S.H. finished airing...
TJ: ...oh my god, why did I say that...
Boom: ...that almost everyone in New York flushed their toilet at the same time?
TJ: *walks away*
Apologies, I think the W9 scoring is fixed but let me know if not.

Essay - Detroit -2.5 over Green Bay
The Detroit Lions can stake a claim as being the league's best team, or at the least, the best NFC team. Their offense has been outstanding over the past few weeks. They can run, pass, are efficient and play just enough defense to get by. Throw in Jordan Love's questionable status and we'll go with Dan Campbell's Biting Kneecap squad. I'm also bit on Detroit's 6-1 ATS mark against Green Bay's 4-4.

The Vikings are in the midst of a two-game slide, with their latest L coming at the hands of a full strength Rams squad. With the benefit of the mini-bye and a raucous crowd for Sunday Night Football, the Vikes will get back to their winning ways. Joe Flacco, who will always hold a special place in my heart after his run with the Browns last year, will get eaten alive by this Brian Flores pass rush. And the Vikes will have their way against a Colts secondary and pass rush that is simply not very good.

it's fun to win,. it's more fun to win w dan campbell. the lions last week domination over the titans probably won't be the story today against the pack, but the lions have won 4 out of the past 5 match-ups. jared goff's numbers are mid for the whole season, but take out the first two weeks (slow start?) and his pff number is 84.5: his overall qb rating is 115.3 w 13 td's and only 4 ints. pack qb jordan love is scheduled to start but only recently cleared. some national touts have predicted as high as a 14 point lions win. mild albeit sloppy conditons don't frighten detroit.

Give me the Packers in a day full afternoon of rain. Take Goff out of the hometown dome and place him not only outside but in bad weather...going to be a tough day. That grass is going to be slippery and without Jameson to throw downfield I think the Lions find it difficult to score. Packers will have to focus on stopping the run game but their defense should be up for the task.

DeleteEssay: Packers. Holy shit we won a few games this weekend. For the essay, which should have been NCAA Washington, we will go with the Packers. Lions have looked incredible and no doubt have a super offense. But their defense has shown definite cracks and even though the Titans got obliterated by a million last week they moved it pretty much at will. If the Packers can slow down Goff and co. at all they should have a great shot to win this game as I believe their offense will move it. Packers for the essay.

DeleteWith the way this Browns season is going, it will only be fitting for another team to enjoy some Flacco magic a few hours after Jameis's three-interception outing against the Chargers. By benching Richardson for Flacco, the Colts showed that they're serious about winning this year, and they'll be rewarded with a win in Minnesota tonight. The Vikings' 5-0 start was a mirage; they're good, but they're not the class of the NFC, nor are they even (IMO) a top-two team in the NFC North. They'll continue to come down to Earth tonight.

Here I am just minding my own business on Halloween wearing my yellow unicorn onesie handing out candy dancing to music blaring from inside the house when a Baltimore fan from down the street shows up and has the audacity to talk excitedly about going to a future Raven game in December with his pal, and I knew right then that I'm essaying the Broncos this weekend. There's one house in my neighborhood that flies a Ravens flag and I never laid eyes on the head of household until this week. Fantastic. Guy looked like he just came off the Contact set with Jodie Foster. Thoughts went racing through my head….like buddy, it's 2024, not 1994. Why are you so pale? I understand you like to wear black clothing, but please go stand in the sun for a while and stop doing what you're doing. Anyway, he wasn't talking to me, but I heard the conversation on the sidewalk, and while I was handing out fun dips to his kids, I was thinking to myself, bro, you guys just lost to the ducking browns. Like 3 or 4 of your players hobbled off the field. I don't think those guys are coming back this week. And here you are as a superfan without a care in the world getting ready for a December game. I don't think so my friend. Denver can win this game. They can push Baltimore around a little bit and stick with a simple run gameplan. Denver might even sneak a w. Sean Peyton is a freak who can coach, and should have some tricks up his sleeve this game. Gimme at least one fake punt/field goal for the broncos and the start of a mid season slide for the ratbird.

i am here for all of the wexner hate. ALL OF IT. and if there is one nfl owner who fits the wexner profile it is,,, bob kraft. shit i was trying to watch yale at columbia and i'm assailed by "Robert K. Kraft Field" signage on the field turf. it's unlikely any man in history has leveraged his dead wife's family's money to aggrandize himself and chase gold diggers with more effect. loathsome guy. BUT. to paraphrase clooney in ocean's 11 regarding their greaseman, pats fans are clapping and saying to brad pitt 'we got a quarterback.' drake maye has boston believing. normally a skeptical bunch here so could be they're onto something. as a browns fan, this observation leads me to the inescapable conclusion that the most impactful move for the browns' future is to go aggressively after another unc qb currently who is sitting behind josh allen. BRING ME MITCH TRUBISKY. as for the game, the titans' shabby treatment of mike vrabel has earned them this season and i don't know how they make it right. the season was punted when derrick henry left and if there were interest in winning games ryan tannehill would be in the locker room, instead of the two headed monster of levis/rudolph. so one team is starting to rally around a new head coach and a promising rookie qb, other team is going in opposite direction and playing for the 2025 draft. that was a legit win the pats hung on the jets last week btw. pats to win outright.

Essay Vikings -5 over Colts -- The #1 defense by DVOA at home after a long week and getting to tee off on sentimental-favorite-but-not-overly-mobile Joe Flacco. I have watched the Colts a bit (and essayed them, God help me) and I'm just not convinced they're that good; their six point win over the Dolphins two weeks ago was nearly as fluky as last week's Commanders cover. Vikings have had some struggles in recent weeks but have been playing a much higher caliber of opponent, so even the LT substitution cannot dissuade me from this pick.
All play: BOYCOTTING the Pedo Bowl. You people disgust me!
ReplyDeleteWill have Sparty and Sun Belt Billy (Florida Gators) for this afternoon. Thank you.
Packers +3, Vikings -5, and Chargers -1 for my vote of the week. These teams are probably pretty evenly matched, especially with the Browns OL back in shape, but the Browns are down a bunch of key guys on defense and will really miss J.O.K. in particular. The Chargers defense has given up the fewest points in the league to date and I'm just not buying this narrative that Jameis Winston is some kind of savior here.
