Cheddar Bay Week 4: Cincinnati -2 @ Notre Dame

Image
If someone would have told you you'd see the day when an undefeated Notre Dame football team ranked in the top ten would be an underdog at home to the The University of Cincinnati, you'd probably say, "sounds like a great Cheddar Bay all play" and folks you won't hear this Executive Committee say otherwise.  Hello it's your old friend frowner here to welcome you to the football-voting weekend. And speaking of the Exec. Comm. it's nice to see that the emeritus member currently perched at the top of the standings  has been making good use of the time that's been freed up from his executive duties. It was some fancy footwork last weekend with the last-minute revocation of the Bears essay and switch to the Cowboys. Will he keep his undefeated vote-of-the-week streak alive?  And as for the only other member of the group who hasn't missed an essay vote, (ahem) my wife, I must report that after she got home from a late shift at work last Saturday she was ...

Cheddar Bay Week 3: Buccaneers -1.5 at Rams

Image
Easy call for the Executive Committee, as seemingly the two best teams in the NFC meet in LA, in what appears to be one hell of a stadium.  One would think there will be a decent home field advantage for the Rams in the sellout crowd, but the impact on Boston freaks that now root for Brady's Bucs remains unknown.  Also unknown is what impact COVID hitting the Bucs locker room, despite being fully vaxxed, may have by Sunday.   Good luck!  College lines are here .  NFL lines are here . Link can take a minute to load, but they show up.

Cheddar Bay Week 2: #1 Alabama -14 @ #11 Florida

The last time Florida beat Alabama, we didn't even know that Urban Meyer had fake health issues or that Aaron Hernandez was going to have a murder conviction reversed and then double reversed.   So a lot has happened since Florida's last win in 2008.  Therefore, with honorable mentions to Penn State/Auburn and Cowboys/Chargers, the Executive Committee has decided to take everyone to The Swamp.   College lines are here .   NFL lines are here .   As for anyone planning on laying all those points for the Browns, please be careful out there.

The Doc of the Bay

Now that Mike has opened the scoring we should probably do something to keep track of it. This season we are attempting to capture the rustic feel of a bygone America: leather helmets, the single wing formation, and people manually entering data in spreadsheets and then clicking on the cells to highlight them in different colors,  here . As you can see there is a sheet to keep track of the total scores and standings, and there will be a sheet for each week's individual picks. I will try to keep on top of things but updates may be a bit slower than they have been in the past: ideally all games on a particular day will be scored no later than the following morning. Once I've entered all the games from a day it will be indicated on the master sheet (where it currently says "9/9 complete"). I will do my best not to screw up your picks or add the numbers together wrong, but please check my work and point out mistakes in the comments. We always have the comment threads as a...

Cheddar Bay Week 1: Browns +6 @ Chiefs

Image
Folks we are back. The all play for week 1 is Browns +6 @ Chiefs.  Recall that the basic rules of this contest are (1) pick six games total, including the all play (which everyone has to play); (2) you must pick at least one college game, and at least one NFL game; (3) you must designate one pick as your pick of the week, and write a coherent essay of at least 100 words explaining why you are picking your pick of the week — the pick of the week is worth 3 points, and the other picks are worth 1 point; (4) also, you can designate one pick over the season as your "pick of the year," which is worth 6 points (and will also count as your pick of the week for that week). (5) the entry fee is $110, with all proceeds distributed to the winners (1st place 60%, 2nd place 15%, regular season champ 10%, and the remaining 15% distributed evenly to weekly winners beginning in week 11); (6) and the top 10% of the regular season scorers will make the playoffs scored consistently with previou...
